“One early morning in October upon awaking from slumber, there arose a sensation of the sense of self being gone. It was seen that there was literally no one there and that all movement was happening spontaneously without central control.
I don’t think I can really explain fully exactly what was seen. The quantum physicists say that all matter is really just empty space, and I suppose in those moments that was recognized through me.
Rather than it being frightening or depressing it was enlivening. It was seen how futile it’s been to try to fill that which can only be empty.. And within that emptiness is the wholeness that was always sought. With the acknowledgment that everyone is empty space, there is no fear of people in higher stations or disrespect of those in lower ones.
For me there has always been this sense of emptiness. We all have it for we are it. We experience it as some personal defect we must hide from the world. It is not a defect. From my point of view, it’s our state of being, and it is beautiful. Some call it egolessness. Some call it no-self. And that emptiness is the self’s bitter enemy that must be fought by filling it in any way it can.
The beauty of this time since this event is the ability to take things far less seriously; hence, spontaneous humor continually arises. The humor comes in seeing the behavior of filling space in myself and the whole human race. It’s the cosmic joke for which I find myself laughing at among a minority of people. But I hope in time others will see the humor and join in.”
